FAQ - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
In the FAQ section you will find some frequently asked questions about braces. If you have a question that has not been answered in this section, just send us an email.
> What does a brace do?
A brace is a medical aid you put on to help support a joint. The reason for using one may be a lack of stability or strength, or the joint may be subject to pain or swelling. A carefully measured, correctly fitted brace will restrict any overly acute bending of the joint without unnecessarily impeding the pattern of movement required for a particular sport. Almost all braces work by applying external pressure, or compression, and providing mechanical support. A brace can be used to support a number of joints, including the ankle, knee, wrist, elbow, shoulder, neck and lower back. A brace is easy to fit and is a convenient aid to help cushion the considerable force imposed on a joint. They are obviously not designed to prevent every new injury, however. This cushioning effect does not mean that these forces can be eradicated altogether, but fortunately, most of them can be.
> What activities can I use a brace for?
A brace can be used in activities with a high risk of sprains or twists combined with swelling, loss of function and/or pain. These kinds of high-risk situations can occur in ordinary day-to-day life and free time, particularly when people are active in sports. Sports which involve a lot of turning and jumping, such as most contact, team and jumping sports, have the highest risk in terms of injuries to ligaments and joints. A brace is an effective aid in the prevention of these kinds of injuries.
> What is the difference between Comforband’s Active, Perform and Medical ranges?
Comforband offers 3 ranges of braces, called Active, Perform and Medical separately.
Active range – a series of knitted braces made of Germanium + bamboo charcoal yarns to provide excellent wearing comfort and mild support to your weak joints. They are designed to provide pain relief, help people with chronic joint problems in their daily activities. These braces can be worn throughout the day without feeling any restriction.
Perform range – designed to provide support and protection to strained, sprained or weak joints during sports activities, and considerably reduce the likelihood of re-injury. We offer a variety of braces with different support levels in this range to match your specific conditions, so you can always play safely and with confidence.
Medical range – a range of braces that provide firm support and stabilization during acute or subacute phase, or designed for some specific joint problems (such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Plantar Fasciitis, etc). These braces help to keep your limbs in a stabilized, safe and relieved position during your everyday movement.
> What does the support level mean?
The support level indicator on the front of our product box is a simple way to determine how much support a Comforband product will provide. It does not mean that there are differing variations of the same product, but is more of a general guide to show the different support levels across our entire product range. For example our Perform series Knee Supports will have differing support levels as some offer additional features or provide firmer compression.
> CAN I USE A BRACE FOR WALKING OR ARE THEY JUST MADE FOR SPORT?A brace is not only intended for sport. A knee or ankle brace can also be useful when you go walking, particularly when walking on uneven surfaces such as in the woods or dunes. But generally speaking, in everyday activities without risk of injury, you do not really need a brace, provided that the instability is not excessive.
> What size should I order?
If you are not sure which size to choose, please use our sizing guide located on the product detail page to help you determine which size will be the best fit for you. If you are still in doubt, simply send us a message and we can advise you on the appropriate size.
> What does Universal Size mean? Will the support fit me?
Lots of our products are Universally Sized, meaning that they will fit most body types. Most products will have further information on their product page detailing the maximum size that the support will fit up to.
> My support doesn’t fit. Can I return it?
We offer a 30 day refund period providing that the product is returned in a re-saleable condition or it is faulty. Please get in touch with your order details to enable us to process your return, refund or replacement.
> How can I wash my support?
For all our supports please ensure to follow the instructions on the hangtag or product box for proper care. As a general guide always hand wash supports in cold water and leave them to dry flat. Do not expose them to direct heat or tumble dry them.
> I’ve got a problem with my wrist. Can you offer me some medical advice?
As all bodies and injuries are different, we cannot offer professional medical advice. Always consult your doctor or physiotherapist before using a Comforband product. Each user has a different condition, and professional physicians can address your concerns directly.
